I recently received a Liebster award! Wooop! 🙂
It was such a nice surprise and I am truly grateful that Seeking the Spanish Sun was chosen to receive a 2017 award.
My blog was nominated by Secret Moona, an awesome travel and lifestyle blog. The author is the lovely Mayi and she writes about all the cool and quirky places she visits. Including lots of food recommendations and insider tips. Thank you Secret Moona!
What is a Liebster award?
The Liebster award is a virtual blogger recognition award given to bloggers by other bloggers. It’s an awesome way to show support to new bloggers and share positive encouragement around the blogging world.
It started back in 2011 and the word “Liebster” is German for saying something is the dearest, nicest, sweetest, kindest, lovely, valued… you get the idea. It’s a really nice way to share some love on the internet.
How does the Liebster award work?
The award is given to a blogger who has less then 200 readers and is the perfect way to give a pat on the back to those working hard to start up their blog.
Essentially, once you have been nominated (and accept the award) you follow the below steps and pass the award on to other bloggers that you think are also doing a great job.
- Thank the person who nominated you
- Display the award on your blog
- Share 10 random facts about yourself
- Answer a series of questions set by the person who nominated you
- Nominate 5 other bloggers and let them know when to expect the announcement on your blog
- Ask your nominees questions for them to answer
- List these rules and all above information in a blog post
10 facts about me
- I met my boyfriend while working in Greece even though we grew up 30 minutes apart in the UK
- I have 4 nephews and 2 nieces
- I talk in my sleep and go for a little sleep walk most nights
- I cannot live without chocolate, it just makes me really happy
- I once threw a 180 in darts
- I love writing lists, it’s the only way I feel organised and on-top of things
- I hate chewing gum, the noise, the texture, its gross!
- I grow my own chilli’s and put them in everything
- I have been stung by a jellyfish and it bloody hurt!
- I once lived on an Island with only 120 inhabitants for 7 months
Secret Moona asked me the following questions:
If you were stranded on a desert island what three things would you have to have with you?
Lip balm, a book and chocolate… but I hope I’m not stranded for too long because I’m not sure how any of those will help me survive!
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
“It’s just stuff, don’t worry” is something that my mum used to say when I was young, if we had broken or lost something. I still feel now as an adult that material possessions are not very important.
How do you choose your destinations/locations?
I mostly travel in Spain or Europe now, but in the past I would pick the most random place I could think of. Somewhere that no-one I knew had ever been too.
What is the best city/place you ever visited?
My favourite trip was backpacking in India back in 2006, it was such an amazing time. I travelled with a great group of friends and we were completely free, with no plans, just exploring.
What is the worst place you have ever been?
I was a little underwhelmed by Hawaii, it was so much more touristy and commercial then I expected.
How often do you interact with locals while traveling?
I always eat and drink where the locals are, it’s the best way to get the good stuff! I also like to wander and see where and how locals live, it helps you get an authentic feel for a place.
What do you hope to achieve with your blog by 2018?
I would love to eventually be the go-to blog for Spain related questions. I’m by no means going to be an expert (as an expat) but I want to see every part of this amazing country and learn everything I can.
Why did you start blogging?
When I moved to Madrid from London I had some free-time on my hands and decided to spend it exploring Spain while looking for somewhere to buy a house and settle down. I thought that sharing all the things I was learning and seeing would be helpful for others who wanted to visit or move to Spain.
What is the one tip you like to share with new travellers?
Go and explore, it will broaden your mind and enhance your life.
What is on top of your bucket list?
The Maldives… that water and those wooden huts.
I would like to nominate these brilliant new travel blogs for a Liebster Award 2017:
Libra Travel Blog – I literally want to visit every place the Libra Travel blog cover’s, the photos and descriptions are just so awesome!
Wandering Gaels – The idea behind the Wandering Gaels blog is so original, I can’t wait to see what they find out about their heritage and history traveling across Ireland!
Little Adventures – Jem and her hiking boots take the Little Adventures blog off to explore some crazy beautiful places in New Zealand!
Anna Just Go Fly – Following Anna’s escapades as an Air Attendant living in Dubai, Anna Just Go Fly blog is always exciting stuff!
